This programmer will be using ISP(In-System-Programming), in which u no need to plug out ur 8051 chip from ur circuit board and put it onto the socket of the programmer like in the lab, and have to put it bec to ur circuit board, again and again each time u want to program ur chip....
Another advantage of this programmer is that it only need few pins to program ur chip, not like parallel programmer that u get in the lab....this is why alot people call it serial programming, which is easy and convenient...all leave it up to the software in host(PC) to do the work.

However ,ther r alot of variations..all depend on you which to choose...
Beside the hardware part, u also need a software on ur PC ,u can find all these online too...
There are alot in the internet, which people have written it and kindly share it with us....

1)DB25 port (u wont have this port in laptop, only desktop will have it..)
